If I hear one more missive
maligning writer’s block I
think I’m going to clock
someone. These days, all I
have are memories of just
looking at the block from
the side of the track or
when the stars align, I
feel the tightness of my
hamstrings as I bow my
head and push the balls of
my feet back against the
blocks waiting for the

pistol shot

to start the time trial,
running only against
myself and the angle of the
sun.
